Ladies and gentlemen, Captain Chaos is officially back.

Chris Cooley officially returned to the Redskins Monday morning, just in time to do a whirlwind set of interviews and have his return be discussed throughout the doldrums of Tuesday, the least active day in the NFL week. (Seriously, it's science. You could look it up).

Anyway, Sarah Kogod of the Post ook it upon herself to go through Cooley's four interviews with a D.C. media outlet and put together a timeline of Cooley's return. (Some people in our business call this a tick-tock. They should stop that.)

Most of the stuff Cooley reveals, like Mike Shanahan calling Cooley as soon as the Redskins landed Sunday night, is pretty self-explanatory. What is less so is the physical Cooley underwent Monday morning out in Ashburn and his, ahem, unusual contract demands.

I've had so many people text, ‘How'd the physical go?' Literally, you go into the training room, and the doctor's like ‘How are you feeling, man? Good? Good. Okay, you passed ... The doctor that did it is the doctor that did my knee surgery before...I mean, he knows me. So it's not up in the air. I'm healthy. My knees not swollen; I'm not overweight. I'm sure if I was a fat slob when I walked in there yesterday, someone would be like, ‘Hey, let's run a little bit.' But I'm in good shape right now.

Literally, I have text correspondence trying to negotiate a case of beer into my contract. They wouldn't do it. I wanted it in writing so much.

Man, how loud is the cheer gonna be at this guy's first game back?

Veteran tight end Chris Cooley spoke with reporters on Monday after it was announced that he had been re-signed by the Washington Redskins. Cooley, the team's all-time leader in catches for a tight end, replaces Fred Davis who was placed on season-ending IR with an Achilles tear.

The Washington Redskins announced on Monday that tight end Chris Cooley has re-signed with the team to replace injured tight end Fred Davis who was placed on season-ending injured reserve. Cooley, who was released by Washington before the 2012 season, rejoins the only team he has ever played for in his eight previous NFL seasons.

Cooley spoke with reporters today on a conference call shortly after it was announced that he was coming back to Washington. He said that he got the call from the Redskins on Sunday night after the team had returned from New York.

After being cut in the offseason, Cooley said, "I feel very fortunate I didn't go somewhere else, because this is the opportunity I always wanted," and that "I'd be kicking myself if I was in another city right now and this came up."

In his career, Cooley has 423 catches for 4,703 yards and 33 touchdowns. He is the Redskins' all-time leader in receptions at the tight end position.

Davis suffered a torn Achilles on the Redskins' first drive of the game Sunday against the New York Giants. He was helped off the field and eventually carted from the sideline to the locker room. He did not return in the 27-23 loss and after the game, Washington head coach Mike Shanahan confirmed that the injury would end Davis' season.

"I'm excited, Cooley said during the call. "I was disappointed for Fred. But I'm very excited to be a part of this team." Cooley also said he has stayed in shape and believes he is ready to play right away, saying "I think I could play this week, no doubt about that."

The Redskins are back in action on Sunday, Oct. 28, when they travel to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers at Heinz Field.

The Washington Redskins signed tight end Chris Cooley, bringing the long-time fan favorite back to the nation's capital, according to Chick Hernandez.

Cooley passed his physical and now has been officially brought into the fold, likely replacing Fred Davis after he tore his Achilles tendon on Sunday against the New York Giants.

The 30-year-old Cooley has had a tough time being productive and healthy in recent times, playing in only five games in 2011 and seven contests in 2009. Last season, Cooley was only able to make eight catches and gain 65 yards in what appeared to be his final campaign as a Redskin.

Cooley could provide a very solid security blanket for Robert Griffin III, who certainly can use all the targets he can get. With the injuries to Davis and Pierre Garcon, the Utah State product might be a valuable asset.

In his eight-year career, Cooley has caught 428 passes for 4,703 yards and 33 touchdowns.

The fan favorite will return to Redskins Park as an active player Monday.

In the wake of Jason La Canfora's initial report that the Redskins were close to re-signing fan favorite tight end Chris Cooley, more information has emerged that has all but confirmed Cooley's return to the Burgundy-and-Gold.

Soon after Cooley was released late in training camp, he was snapped up by WRC-TV (the NBC affiliate in Washington, D.C.) to appear alongside sportscaster Dan Hellie on a segment (normally broadcast from Redskins Park in Ashburn, Va.) called "The Cooley Report" during the station's 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. newscasts.

Late Sunday night, after La Canfora's report broke, Hellie confirmed that Cooley would sign with the Redskins Monday, while adding that "The Cooley Report" segment would continue to air on Mondays.

Currently, the Redskins media schedule for Monday calls for "a player TBD" to address the media via speakerphone in the Redskins media room at 2:30 p.m. prior to head coach Mike Shanahan's 3 p.m. press conference. In light of tonight's news, it's hard to imagine that player being anyone else.

The Washington Redskins are expected to sign Chris Cooley after cutting him earlier in the season as they deal with an injury to starting tight end Fred Davis. The fan favorite has been working out, but has not signed with another team since his release.

The Washington Redskins will bring back longtime tight end Chris Cooley after cutting him earlier in the season as they search for depth in the wake of a season-ending injury to Fred Davis, according to Jason La Canfora.

Cooley, who has played his entire eight-year career with the Redskins, has been a free agent since being released Aug. 28. The 30-year-old insisted after an emotional goodbye that he would wait for the ideal situation and possibly consider retiring rather than signing with the first team to offer him, with the insinuation that he would likely re-sign with the Redskins should they need him. With Davis tearing his Achilles - an injury with a lengthy rehab process - they're in need of an extra tight end, and Cooley is a perfect fit. La Canfora reports that the fan favorite has remained in the Washington area and has been working out to remain in playing shape despite not being on an NFL roster.

Cooley is the Redskins' career record holder in receptions by a tight end, but last season, he had eight receptions in only five games. He will likely be a third-stringer behind Niles Paul and Logan Paulsen, who are currently on the roster. He also has the ability to play a fullback role for the team if needs be.
