Marcus Johansson Returning To Capitals After Two Game Rehab Stint

New, 2 comments

The Washington Capitals announced this afternoon that they have recalled center Marcus Johansson from AHL Hershey. The Capitals sent the Swedish rookie to Hershey late last week.

Johansson, the Capitals' first round selection in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, made the team in training camp and has one goal and one assist in six games this season. Johansson suffered a hip injury against the Boston Bruins October 21 and yet to return to the lineup. In two games with the Hershey Bears, Johansson had three shots on goal and finished plus-1.

Johansson admitted last week that sitting out of games was "boring," but with the Capitals playing well, head coach Bruce Boudreau wasn't sure what to do with Johansson:

"We're playing pretty good now, and he's healthy, so I don't know what we're going to do," Boudreau said. "It's quite a good luxury when you have really good players and they're battling for spots. It's a tough call."

This should be pose an interesting question for the Capitals, who are in the midst of a five-game winning streak and have won seven of eight. If Boudreau couldn't find a place for Johansson before his demotion, where will he fit in now?
