The Capitals started out the second period with 1:12 left in a power play, but they could not find the back of the net. Another power play with just 1:39 gone in the period yielded the same result. Although the Capitals continue to dominate their opponents in shots for the second game in a row, the scoreboard remains surprisingly close.
Just 25 seconds after the the Flyers killed off two straight power plays, they emerged with the lead. A shot from Andrei Meszaros was tipped past Braden Holtby by Ville Leino.
Leino was sent to the box a few minutes later for high sticking on Mike Green, and this time the Capitals finally made their opponents pay. Alexander Ovechkin started the sequence with a shot from outside. Fortunately for the home team, it deflected right to Nicklas Backstrom, who was able to find Alexander Semin via a backhand pass for an easy put-away.
We're tied at two goals each at the Verizon Center, and likely heading towards to an exciting finish.
