Capitals Vs. Stars: Penalties Spell Doom For Caps, Who Trail 1-0 After Second Period

The Washington Capitals entered tonight's game having committed seven minor penalties in their last two games. The Capitals entered the second period on the penalty kill and would commit three more penalties throughout the second period. The fourth time ended up being the charm for the Dallas Stars.

Mike Ribeiro scored on the power play at 13:29 to give the Stars a 1-0 lead over the Capitals after two periods.

James Neal set up behind the Capitals' goal and found Brad Richards on the right faceoff circle for a wrist shot. Michal Neuvirth would stop Richards' shot with his leg pad, but left a rebound for Ribeiro to stuff home for his fourth goal of the season.

The Capitals are outshooting the Stars 24-15, but allowed Dallas to gain momentum with their three power play opportunities. Scott Hannan, Washington's newly acquired defenseman, was in the penalty box during the goal. Hannan had only six penalty minutes in 23 games with the Colorado Avalanche before the trade. Hannan has 13:40 TOI and four blocked shots.
