Mathieu Perreault Recalled, But Unknown Player Will Head To Injured Reserve

The Washington Capitals announced today that center Mathieu Perreault has been recalled for the second time this season. But coinciding with Perreault's promotion is the placement of an unknown Capital on the injured reserve list. Head coach Bruce Boudreau did not provide any clues.

"Somebody that's banged up will go on IR today, you'll be able to read about it," Boudreau said.

Boudreau, however, would make it clear that the unknown player is not Alexander Semin, who has been dealing with a nagging, yet undisclosed injury. A possible choice is defenseman Tom Poti, who has been hampered by a groin injury all season. John Erskine, who sat out of Saturday's loss to the Atlanta Thrashers with an undisclosed injury, will not be the player in question. The NHL does not require teams to make an announcement when a player is placed on injured reserve.

Perreault has played three games with the Capitals this season and had two assists during his late October stint.
