Capitals Vs. Senators: Washington Still Down 1-0 After Two

As the Caps walk into the locker room for the second intermission, they still trail the Ottawa Senators 1-0.

The period saw a lot of back and forth action, but in the end, there was no scoring despite plenty of chances for both teams.

In the middle of the period, Niklas Backstrom notched time in the penalty box as he was charged with hooking, giving the Senators the only power play of the period. Fortunately for the Caps, their penalty kill unit was able to get the job done and deny Ottawa of taking a two goal lead.

THe period ended with a furious rally for the Caps, as they had numerous scoring chances against goal tender Brian Elliot. Plenty of Caps had good chances at Elliot, including Alex Ovechkin, Mike Knuble, David Steckel and Marcus Johansson. Despite all of those chances, Elliot was able to keep the Caps scoreless after two.

Though they were unable to break through so far against Elliot, the Caps can look at the end of the second period and feel confident that perhaps they can finally get on the board in the final period.
