Capitals Schedule: Washington Looks To Remain Undefeated In Second Week Of Season

The Capitals look to remain undefeated in the second week of the season, a week that includes a home showdown with the Detroit Red Wings.

The Washington Capitals enter the second week of the season an undefeated 4-0-0 with a division leading eight points. On Tuesday night, they stay in the division as the Florida Panthers visit Verizon Center. We're only one week in, but after finishing dead last in the Eastern Conference last year, the Panthers certainly look more competitive. In net for Florida will be familiar face Jose Theodore, who has a .931 save percentage in only three games. The Caps will get the Panthers on the second night of a back-to-back road trip, as they travel to DC straight from Tampa on Monday night. Tomas Vokoun will likely get the start in net with a golden opportunity for the Caps to remain perfect.

On Thursday, the Caps will travel up I-95 for a showdown with the Philadelphia Flyers. Philly is currently 3-0-1 on the season and is once again expected to contend in the Atlantic Division and the Eastern Conference. The Flyers only loss on the season to date was an overtime loss to the Kings, when they were lit up by former Flyer Mike Richards

The Capitals finish the week on Saturday night, hosting the the Detroit Red Wings at the Verizon Center. Detroit also went through the first week of the season unscathed, going 4-0-0 for 8 points. After having much of the week off, the Red Wings will also travel to DC to face off against the Caps on the second night of back-to-back games. It is Detroit's one visit to the Verizon Center this season.
