Blackhawks Vs. Capitals: Mathieu Perreault Continues To Produce, Scores To Give Caps 2-1 Lead After 20 Minutes

Mathieu Perreault has been one of several forwards fighting for a roster spot on the Washington Capitals. It is safe to say that he could have some job security.

Perreault scored his third goal of the preseason midway through the first period and Brooks Laich added one near the end to give the Caps a 2-1 lead over the Chicago Blackhawks at the end of the first period.

After consistent pressure in the offensive zone, the Caps finally broke through when Mike Green's slap shot sneaked through Corey Crawford's pads. Perreault was in the crease and tapped the puck past Crawford to give Washington a 1-0 lead at 11:18.

Laich's goal came at 16:41 when he worked a give-and-go with Joel Ward and ended up with an open look in the slot. Laich took advantage and put a high wrist shot past Crawford to give the Caps a 2-0 lead. Marian Hossa, however, cut the lead to 2-1 just 30 seconds later when he beat Michal Neuvirth with a shot in close.

The Caps outshot the Blackhawks 15-7.
