Blackhawks Vs. Capitals: Caps End Preseason With 4-1 Win Over Blackhawks

The Washington Capitals started the preseason in less than stellar fashion with a 1-3-1 record, but two consecutive wins gives them positive momentum after a 4-1 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks Sunday to close out the preseason.

Mathieu Perreault scored his team-high third goal of the preseason midway through the first period and the Caps never trailed. Brooks Laich also scored in the first period, while Mike Green's power play goal and Jay Beagle's shorthanded goal late in the third period sealed the victory.

For Perreault, his inspired performance throughout the preseason has caught the eye of head coach Bruce Boudreau, who was quick to praise him after Sunday's game.

"I think our best player all of [training] camp was Mathieu Perreault," Boudreau said. "He played with energy every night and I think he was very similar last year, but we'll sit down tomorrow and discuss all of this."

Boudreau said that he has an idea of what the rosters will look like come next Saturday, when Washington opens the season at Verizon Center against the Carolina Hurricanes. NHL rosters must be set by 3 p.m. EST Wednesday.
