Capitals Vs. Oilers: Washington's Seven-Game Winning Streak Ends In 2-1 Loss To Edmonton

The Washington Capitals seven-game winning streak to start the season came to an end Thursday in a 2-1 loss to the Edmonton Oilers.

Karl Alzner gave Washington an early 1-0 lead in the first period, but Taylor Hall's power play goal late in the period tied the game at 1-1. In the second period, the Caps committed five minor penalties, one of which led to Jordan Eberle's game-winning goal off a Corey Potter rebound. The Oilers finished 2-of-8 on the power play.

After a less-than-stellar second period, the Caps came out firing in the third. The Oilers committed all three penalties in the final frame, including Andy Sutton's roughing call with 1:06 left that gave the Caps a 6-on-4 with Tomas Vokoun (17 saves) pulled. Despite a two-man advantage, Washington failed to muster any quality scoring chances and as the clock ran out, so did the Caps' winning streak.

The Caps return to action Saturday against the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena.
