Capitals Vs. Canucks: Washington Can't Complete Comeback, Falls 7-4 To Vancouver

An old adage says that "he who laughs last, laughs best." Perhaps the same can be said about scoring.

A back-and-forth game between the Washington Capitals and Vancouver Canucks ended with the latter scoring three unanswered goals in the third period en route to a 7-4 victory.

Alex Ovechkin scored twice for the Caps, who also received goals from Mike Knuble and Marcus Johansson. For the Canucks, Alexander Edler, Maxim Lapierre and Chris Higgins each scored twice, while Henrik Sedin added one as well. Vancouver led 3-1 after the first period and chased Tomas Vokoun, who allowed three goals on 17 shots. Michal Neuvirth returned to action for the first time since October 8 in the second period and stopped 22 of 26 shots.

The Caps made a spirited comeback in the second period as they tied the game at 4-4 entering the third, but the Canucks scored thrice in a span of 4:07 to put the game out of reach. Roberto Luongo made 28 saves on 32 shots for the victory.

After a 0-2 road trip, the Caps return to Verizon Center - where they are 5-0-0 this season - to face the Anaheim Ducks Tuesday,
