The Washington Capitals, looking to break a two game losing streak, are tied with the New Jersey Devils 1-1 after two periods in Newark. Alex Ovechkin tied the game off a Nicklas Backstrom face-off win in the New Jersey zone. Dennis Wideman controlled the puck at the point. Wideman quickly threw the puck at the net towards Ovechkin who was set up on the far post. The puck hit Ovie in the stomach, dropped in front of him and he quickly slammed it past Devils’ goaltender Martin Brodeur to even the game. It was Ovechkin’s seventh goal of the season.
The most noteworthy development of the evening continues to be the status of star defenseman Mike Green. Green was injured in the first on a hit by Ryan Carter along the boards. He played two shifts in the second period and went back and forth from being in the tunnel to on the bench. He was clearly in pain on the bench after trying to test his right leg on the ice. It’s looking like his return, after six games out, may have only lasted one period but we will have more as the third period gets underway.
