Capitals Vs. Avalanche: Avalanche Bury Caps In 2-1 Win

The Washington Capitals entered Saturday's game against the Colorado Avalanche looking to take advantage of an injury-depleted and struggling team. Yet, in what has become familiar fashion, the Caps did not take said advantage in a 2-1 loss to the Avalanche.

Cody McLeod and Erik Johnson scored for Colorado, while Alexander Semin scored for Washington, who trailed for all but 3:43 of Saturday's game. Jean-Sebastien Giguere, starting in place of former Cap Semyon Varlamov, made 21 saves for his fifth win of the season. Michal Neuvirth, fresh off a 26-save shutout Thursday, made 19 saves in a losing effort.

The Caps, down 2-1 entering the third period, only had one shot on goal midway through the period and finished with seven in the final frame. Washington pulled Neuvirth in favor of an extra attacker, but could not take advantage; they were also 0-for-3

Washington returns home Tuesday to face the Nashville Predators at Verizon Center.
