VIDEO: John Erskine Fights Arron Asham, Settles Early-Season Capitals Vs. Penguins Score

You knew somebody on the Washington Capitals was going to fight Pittsburgh Penguins enforcer Arron Asham, considering what Asham did to Jay Beagle earlier in the season. The only question was who. Beagle hasn't played since the incident, so it obviously wasn't going to be him. Karl Alzner was very critical of Asham after the fight happened, but he was a little out of Asham's weight class.

So instead, defensemen John Erskine was the one to step up to the plate. Video, via our friends at Comcast SportsNet, is below the jump.

Craig Laughlin described it as a "big-time bout," which seems accurate to us. Erskine got in a couple good shots early, Asham responded once the two hit the boards and Erskine eventually fought back and dropped him to the ground. It's not complete consolation for what Asham did to Beagle earlier in the season, but I think Capitals fans will take it.

Alas, I'm sure they'd prefer their team won the game too.
