Mike Green Will Miss A Couple Weeks With Injury, According To Report

It seems like Mike Green's head injuries are more serious than originally anticipated. The Capitals initially said he will rejoin the team when they play the Florida Panthers on Sunday, but general manager George McPhee just said that Green will likely miss a few weeks. Via Sky Kerstein of 106.7 The Fan:

#Caps McPhee says they will probably hold Green out a couple of weeks

This backs up an earlier report by Nick Kypreos of Sportsnet.ca that indicated Green could be out for up to three weeks with the injury. Green was placed on the Long-Term Injury Reserve list, according to McPhee, but is eligible to be taken off anytime because he was placed there retroactively.

Green has not played since he took an elbow to his face on Friday against the New York Rangers. He had missed several games earlier in the month with an ear injury after taking a slap shot to the face against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Super Bowl Sunday. Green's injuries may have played a role in the Capitals' trade deadline deal for Florida Panthers defensemen Dennis Wideman

Defensemen Tom Poti and forward Eric Fehr were also played on the LTIR list, according to McPhee, and are also eligible to be removed anytime.
