VIDEO: Alex Ovechkin Crashes Net, Ties Capitals Vs. Rangers Game

↵

The Capitals have talked all season about the need to crash the net and get the ugly goals necessary to win in the playoffs. Well, it's harder to get a goal uglier than this. The Capitals kept slamming away on Henrik Lundqvist's doorstep until Alex Ovechkin finally slipped the puck into the back of the net.

To say Ovechkin was determined to score this goal would be like saying coach Bruce Boudreau sometimes uses foul language. He got a ton of swings on the puck, and not even the referee's whistle could stop him. The play was reviewed before the officials correctly determined that the puck was in the back of the net before the whistle was blown.

It's ironic, given the Capitals' journey this season, that they failed on so many flashy, easier chances, but were able to put home the ugly goal. They all count the same on the scoreboard, though, so we'll take it.
