When I first heard that this goal was the 300th of Alex Ovechkin's career, my first thought was "Wow, just 300?" Obviously, that's a ridiculous reaction, because scoring 300 goals in this little time is an amazing accomplishment, but it speaks to just how prolific Ovechkin has been over the past few years.
↵This goal came on a one-timer, and it went a long way toward the Capitals beating Toronto, 3-2, to clinch another Southeast Division crown. With the goal, Ovechkin reached the 300 mark at a younger age than all but five players in NHL history. Those five players? Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Dale Hawerchuk, Mike Bossy and Steve Yzerman. All five players are in the Hall of Fame, which is where Ovechkin will be barring a stunning career collapse.
