Could Capitals Play A Preseason Game In Baltimore Next Season?

The Washington Capitals will have a special announcement on Monday at 11:30 live from the First Mariner Arena in Baltimore on Monday. The team announced that George McPhee, Baltimore City Council president Jack Young and arena General Manager Frank Remesch will be present for the press conference.

It's not yet clear why the event is being held, but the most likely announcement is that the Capitals will be holding a preseason game in Baltimore next season. At least that's what Matt Vensel of the Baltimore Sun speculates.

↵↵This is pure speculation here -- and maybe a little bit of wishful thinking -- but it wouldn't surprise me if they revealed that the Capitals plan on playing a preseason exhibition at 1st Mariner Arena sometime this summer. It just makes too much sense.

The newfound interest in the Capitals in the city of Baltimore was documented by Dan Steinberg earlier this year, so this does seem like the next logical step.
