The final day of the 2011 Washington Capitals Development Camp saw a Fan Fest in the morning and an entertaining, albeit slightly chippy, third and final scrimmage in the afternoon, with Team Red defeating Team White 5-2 before a packed Kettler Capitals Iceplex crowd.
Team Red led 2-0 after the first period, behind goals by Karl Stollery and Reid Edmonson. Travis Boyd continued his strong play in camp, recording an assist on the Edmonson goal. Team Red also received two goals from 5'6' T.J. Syner, a lighting quick skater built like a football player. Syner will return to UMass-Amhert for his senior year brimming with confidence. The final tally for the victors was an empty netter by Stanislav Galiev with 13 seconds to play.
Garrett Mitchell and Luke Lockhart scored for Team White. Mitchell played feisty all day, drilling defenseman Mike Boivin after a whistle and visibly agitating Dmitri Orlov in a bench-side exchange.
Dustin Stevenson and Aaron Schmit chose to mix it up in the second period, entertaining the crowd with a dustup won handily by Stevenson.
