Washington Capitals Training Camp: Tom Poti Not Skating On Day 1

Washington Capitals training camp got underway on Saturday, and there was one notable absence: defensemen Tom Poti. Poti, who missed most of last season with an eye and groin injury, was still not on the ice as the Capitals broke camp. Via Stephen Whyno of the Washington Times.

Tom Poti's groin problems and his injury status make up the Capitals' top question going into training camp. Saturday morning, there was at least one hint that his status was still pretty quo.

Poti was set to be part of Group A, but the 34-year-old defenseman was not on the ice with the rest of his teammates at 9:15 a.m.

Poti had been a possibility for the long-term injury reserve list, but he had also said he was hoping to play this season. General manager George McPhee is expected to provide an update on Poti later Saturday.
