The Washington Capitals begin their NHL preseason schedule on Tuesday night with a special event: the first annual Baltimore Hockey Classic live from First Mariner Arena. The opponent is the Nashville Predators, and the game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
The Capitals have not played any sort of game in Baltimore since 1992, when they faced their AHL farm club. The last time they faced an NHL team was in 1991, when they took on the Philadelphia Flyers. But the Capitals have done a lot in recent years to expand their fanbase into Baltimore, and this preseason game is a big part of that effort.
Capitals coach Bruce Boudreau said on Monday that he will likely bring many key players to play in the game. There is expected to be a very good crowd on hand for the contest, perhaps even a sellout.
