Washington Capitals Training Camp: Braden Holtby Among Those Cut Sunday

Via Mike Vogel, the Washington Capitals have cut goaltender Braden Holtby, defensemen Patrick Wellar and Danny Richmond as well as forwards Matthew Ford, Ryan Potulny and Christian Hanson. Holtby, Wellar and Ford will head directly to the Hershey Bears' training camp, which began this weekend. Meanwhile, Potulny, Hanson and Richmond must clear waivers first before joining the Bears.

According to Vogel's count, there are 29 players left on the Caps' training camp roster: 17 forwards, 10 defensemen and two goalies, leaving six forwards vying for three spots. Those forwards likely are Cody Eakin, Mattias Sjogren, Chris Bourque, Jay Beagle, D.J. King and Mathieu Perreault. There are four preseason games left before the home opener October 8, so the competition just got a bit tighter.
