The Winnipeg Jets have a 2-1 lead, but have missed the opportunity to expand on it as the second period has ended at the MTS Center in Manitoba.
Nik Antropov's goal with 3:50 remaining in the period gave Winnipeg a 2-1 lead as the center beat Alex Ovechkin to a spot in front of the net, where he received and potted a centering pass from Tim Stapleton past Tomas Vokoun.
The Jets had a golden opportunity to increase their lead after a holding penalty on Mike Knuble and a delay-of-game penalty against Brooks Laich put the Capitals shorthanded for 1:38. However, Washington was able to kill the penalties and earned a power play of their own with 10 seconds left in the period as Tobias Enstrom was called for holding Laich to prevent a breakaway.
Marcus Johansson missed a large part of the second period after taking a hit to the head from Mark Stuart while skating behind the net in the first period. However, Johansson has since returned to the game. No penalty was called on the play.
