Washington enter tonight's game holding on to the eighth and final spot in the Eastern Conference playoff race with 78 points. Closing in on the Caps for the last spot are the Jets (76 points), while the Buffalo Sabres are right there as well with 75 points. The Capitals are still in the running for the Southeast Division title, as they currently sit in second place behind the Florida Panthers.

The Blackhawks, winners of two straight games, currently sit in sixth place in the Western Conference playoff standings with 86 points.
