Capitals Vs. Flyers Recap: Washington Falls To Philadelaphia In Shootout, 2-1

The Washington Capitals added a point in Philadelphia on Thursday night after falling 2-1 to the Flyers in a shootout. The Caps had plenty of chances to take a lead throughout the second and third periods, but they simply could not convert quality scoring chances. Braden Holtby was solid in net and during overtime. The Flyers put on a mad scramble in front of the net as the final seconds ticked off, but Holtby held strong and sent it into the extra session.

Matt Read led off the shootout for Philly and beat Holtby with a wrist shot. But Matt Hendricks immediately answered with one of his patented beautiful moves to fake Ilya Bryzgalov out of his pads and even it up. Alex Ovechkin had a chance to give the Caps an advantage in the second round and snaked around as approached the Flyers' netminder. But Ovie's backhand was well wide of the post. Wayne Simonds gave the Flyers the advantage when he fired a rocket under the glove of Holtby in the top of the fourth round. With a chance to send it to the fifth, Troy Brouwer went low and Bryzgalov stuffed it with his pad for the 2-1 shootout win.

The Caps now come home for a huge division matchup against the Jets on Friday night.
