Alex Ovechkin was announced as the NHL's Third Star of the Week Monday morning, which was a nice piece of recognition for the man who has apparently found his scoring touch at just the right time.
The Capitals captain recorded six goals and seven points during a week that saw the Caps go 2-0-2 as they continued their quest for a playoff spot.
But as far as we're concerned, the most impressive play of Ovechkin's week came inside his own blue line during Sunday's 3-0 win over the Minnesota Wild. Video's after the jump.
In the second period, with the Capitals up, 1-0, Ovechkin tracked back wonderfully and made a sliding block to deny Mikko Koivu a scoring chance on a 2-on-1 break. Ovechkin does particularly well here by making sure that the passing lane is blocked off, which left Koivu (who was clearly looking to pass) out of options.
