The Washington Capitals and Boston Bruins continued their defensive ways in the first period of their critical Game 5 matchup at TD Garden, with the two teams playing to a scoreless tie in the first period on Saturday afternoon.
Washington gave Boston an early power play opportunity, as John Carlson was called for goaltender interference after running head-on into Boston goalie Tim Thomas.
The Bruins were unable to convert, however, and are now 0-15 in the series with the man advantage.
Braden Holtby and Tim Thomas were once again the stars in the first period, as they have been all series long, Holtby stopped all 10 shots he face in the first twenty minutes, with Thomas turning away all 11 Capitals attempts at the Boston net.
