2012 NHL Playoffs, Rangers Vs. Capitals Game 1: Washington's Quest For The Cup Continues In New York City

The seventh-seeded Washington Capitals continue their quest for the Stanley Cup when they travel to New York on Saturday to take on the Rangers. Washington won their opening series against the defending champion Bruins in overtime of Game 7 on Wednesday night, with New York needing to win Game 6 in Ottawa and Game 7 at home to escape their first round matchup with the No. 8 seed Senators.

This will be the third time the two teams have met in the past four postseasons, with the Capitals winning the previous two. Washington is 4-2 all-time in playoff series against the Rangers.

Defense and goaltending was the key for Washington in the first round, with netminder Braden Holtby the star of the seven game series with the Bruins. Holtby played every minute of the matchup with Boston, allowing 15 goals with a .940 save percentage. He is also familiar with Madison Square Garden, as he made 35 saves in Washington's season-ending 4-1 win over New York.
