While his NHL team wrestles with a coaching search, this weekend's draft and the lingering prospect of a lockout by team owners, Alexander Ovechkin continues to play the supportive boyfriend, following Russian tennis player Maria Kirilenko all around the clay courts and grass courts of Western Europe.
This week, the road show has moved to the scenic country of Holland and the grass court UNICEF Open. Kirilenko fell to Francesca Schiavone in her only singles match, but she and Petrova have made steady progress through the doubles draw. On Tuesday, the Russian pair defeated France's Alize Cornet and Pauline Parmentier 6-2, 6-0.
But this isn't about obscure tennis tournaments. This is about Ovechkin documenting the whole thing via Twitter and finding out that there are fans of Capitals hockey even in the land of the Oranje.
In Holland... Caps fans support my Maria... hahaha so sick!!! love caps fans! twitter.com/ovi8/status/21…
