Stephen Strasburg Resolves To Quit Smokeless Tobacco

For a while there, it looked liked Stephen Strasburg could do no wrong. But over the last few months, we've started to realize that he is more human than he appeared to be in the early part of his career. One of those things was his pretty bad addiction to smokeless tobacco products.

Well now he's trying to quit. According to Adam Kilgore at that Washington Post, Strasburg plans to be nicotine free by he time he reports to Spring Training.

"I'm still in the process of quitting," Strasburg, 22, said. "I've made a lot of strides, stopped being so compulsive with it. I'm hoping I'm going to be clean for spring training. It's going to be hard, because it's something that's embedded in the game."

It's hard to realize just how big a part of baseball chewing tobacco is because television broadcasts do a pretty good job of not showing players when they are spitting or packing their lip. But it is still a huge part of the game. It's good that Stephen is suing his time off to try and better himself. Good luck.
