Nationals Likely To Hire F.P. Santangelo To Replace Rob Dibble As MASN Color Commentator

The Washington Nationals have yet to find a permanent replacement for MASN color commentator Rob Dibble after the team fired him last August thanks to a series of controversial comments, most notably toward Stephen Strasburg. Now, they appear to be closing in on a permanent replacement.

According to Bill Ladson of MLB.com, the team will likely choose current San Francisco Giants broadcaster F.P. Santangelo to replace him.

I was informed that F.P. Santangelo is the leading candidate to become the TV analyst for #Nats games. #MASN

Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post fills in more details:

The favorite for the job, according to a source, is Giants broadcaster and former player F.P. Santangelo. While it would be a surprise if Santangelo does not get the job, the source said, no official decision has been made.

Santangelo worked for both the Giants' radio broadcast and for the team's TV broadcast on CSN Bay Area. He played for the Expos, among other teams, in his seven-year MLB career.  The team is also reportedly considering Ray Knight, who filled in on an interim basis when Dibble was fired, and former Cardinals manager Joe Magrane.

MASN presented a list of candidates, but it will be the Nationals who make the final decision, according to Kilgore.
