Mike Cameron To Sign With Washington Nationals, According To Report

The Washington Nationals have made a move in free agency, signing veteran outfielder Mike Cameron, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. Cameron split time with the Boston Red Sox and Florida Marlins last season, and will likely be a part-time player for the Nationals next season.

Cameron, who turns 39 in 2012, really struggled last season, hitting .203 with nine home runs and 27 RBIs. He was counted on to be a regular player with the Red Sox, but instead played so badly that he was traded to the Marlins for a player to be named later. Cameron was a little better with the Marlins, but was still released in mid-September, before the season ended.

It remains unclear how much the Nationals will count on Cameron next season. The team has discussed moving Jayson Werth to center field to make room for Bryce Harper. Otherwise, Cameron could end up being a starter for the team next year despite his advancing age and declining skills.
