Gio Gonzalez Trade Rumors: Washington Nationals Making A Push To Trade For Athletics Lefty, According To Report

While the Washington Nationals may have failed to make a big splash on the free agency market so far, reports on Monday night linked the Nats to one of the biggest pitching prizes on the offseason trade market. Fox's Ken Rosenthal tweeted that Washington was making a push to acquire Oakland's young lefty starter Gio Gonzalez.

Gonzalez has been linked with a host of teams over the past week, including the Cincinnati Reds, Texas Rangers, Detroit Tigers, and both the New York Mets and Yankees. Gonzalez has pitched 200 innings in each of the past two seasons, compiling a 31-21 overall record with an ERA just above 3.00 in each season.

He is a talented and highly coveted young lefty, but just this week Jon Heyman reported that the A's were asking the Yankees for their top hitting prospect and their top two pitching prospects in a proposed trade. One has to wonder what kind of haul, reportedly four players strong, the Nats are considering sending out to the Bay Area.
