MLB Free Agency: Nationals Nearing Deal With Mark DeRosa, According To Report

The Washington Nationals have been looking for some help off their bench this offseason, and until now, they haven't really been able to land an impact player to help them there. But according to Amanda Comak of the Washington Times, the team might be close to landing super-utility man Mark DeRosa, who would fill the Nats' need perfectly. Manager Davey Johnson knows DeRosa, and understands that he can help the club.

“I looked at his last two years and they weren’t too stellar,” Johnson said at the winter meetings in early December. “I know he had injured his left wrist but I had him in the World Baseball Classic, and he’s a really quality guy. I really like him. If he’s healthy, he fits the role about as good as you can get.”

DeRosa could fill in off the bench in a number of position, but would like focus on the corner outfield and corner infield spots.

We'll have more on this signing if it becomes official, but for more on all things Nationals baseball head over to Federal Baseball.
