MLB Rumors 2011: Winter Meetings Begin, Washington Nationals Expected To Be Active

The MLB Winter Meetings, when a lot of the big free agent signing will take place, began on Monday. This is the big center of activity for all of the teams and free agents, and a lot of deals will be signed and trades executed. It's one of the more exciting times in Baseball that doesn't actually include any games.

If you remember, it was the Sunday right before the Winter Meetings that the Nationals shocked the Baseball world and signed Jayson Werth to that blockbuster contract. It was their official announcement that they were ready to spend, and compete, with the big boys.

That pattern was continued this year. The Marlins, previously thought to be a a small-time spender and NL East doormat, signed Jose Reyes to a huge contract on Sunday night, announcing they had the same intentions as the Nationals.

The Nats have been tied to several big names heading into this week, including but not limited to; Prince Fielder, Yoenis Cespedes, Mark Buehrle, Roy Oswalt and C.J. Wilson.

We'll be covering the Winter Meetings and all of the Nationals potential dealings this week in this StoryStream. For more on the Nationals, check out Federal Baseball.
