Nationals Vs. Mets: Nats Trail Mets 3-1 After Five

The Nationals are trailing the Mets 3-1 after five innings at Citi Field. Jason Marquis has given up three earned runs with just one walk and seven strikeouts.

The scoring started for the Mets thanks to a pair of RBI singles in the first inning by David Wright and Angel Pagan. The next inning, the Nats got one run back, when Ivan Rodriguez got an RBI ground out (after Jim Riggleman called a double steal). The third Mets run came in the bottom of the fifth when Ike Davis singled in former National Willie Harris.

Mets starter Chris Young has been solid thus far, giving up just one run on one hit against Nationals hitting through five innings. Had it not been for Riggleman's double steal call, Young would not have given up the long run he has given up so far.

Marquis has had a steady afternoon so far and will remain in the game going into the sixth inning. The question is: Will he get some run support? He has certainly pitched will enough to win a game like this. But unfortunately for Marquis, Young is pitching extremely well right now.
