Ryan Zimmerman Injury Forces Nationals' Third Baseman To Disabled List

Ryan Zimmerman's abdominal injury appears to be more serious than initially expected. The Nationals' third baseman will be heading to the 15-day disabled list after trying to play through the nagging injury at the beginning of the season, according to MLB.com's Bill Ladson.

I just learned that #Nats 3B Ryan Zimmerman will be placed on the 15-day disabled list. An announcement will be officially made Tuesday.

General manager Mike Rizzo said Sunday that Zimmerman suffered the injury in spring training, and aggravated it in Saturday's game against the New York Mets. The team originally held him out on Sunday hoping two days of rest would heal his injury. It appears that it hasn't, and the Nationals will pay a heavy price for it.

Zimmerman is hitting .357 with one home run and four RBIs this season, so the injury hasn't really hampered his production. With Adam LaRoche also sore, the Nationals' offense, already poor, is slated to get much, much worse for the short term.
