If things going on off the baseball field have been bothering Washington Nationals starter Livan Hernandez, he hasn't let it effect his play too much. He has only given up two runs (only one earned) to the New York Mets while the Nationals offense has started to show signs of life by scoring three off Mets pitcher Chris Capuano which has the game at 4-2 Nationals going into the sixth.
Outfielder Jayson Werth hit a ground-rule double RBI in the third-inning to start out the Nats scoring. Then in the fourth-inning the Nationals starting scoring hits off Capuano including a triple by shortstop Ian Desmond. Third baseman Jerry Hairston Jr. was able to single in Desmond. Later in the inning Hernandez was able to sac bunt in Hairston Jr. Desmond then delivered a solo homerun in the fifth-inning to give Hernandez a little more of a cushion.
David Wright scored Jose Reyes in the fourth for the Mets and a Nats error by Ivan Rodriguez helped New York score again in the fifth.
