Ryan Zimmerman's injury is certainly more serious that initially expected. The Nationals' third baseman will require surgery to fix a sports hernia and could be out as long as the all-star break, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

Zimmerman had been on the disabled list since April 9 with an abdominal injury, and it looked like he would be back soon after it was reported that he would begin a rehab stint. However, he was tested at Nationals Park on Saturday and did not do well. He admitted afterwards that he would need a second opinion because he didn't think he had progressed, and manager Jim Riggleman said he was "concerned."
Based on Rosenthal's report, it looks like that concern was justified. The Nationals have hung in at 12-13 without Zimmerman, but his absence is a huge blow to an already poor offense.
