Mike Rizzo Being Investigated For Verbal Altercation With Umpire After Mets-Nationals Game

Remember the horrible call that was made at the end of Friday's Mets-Nationals game that cost Jayson Werth a base hit during a key ninth-inning rally? It didn't make general manager Mike Rizzo happy either, and he ran after umpire Phil Cuzzi to tell him about it. That may have gotten Rizzo into hot water.

According to multiple reports, Major League Baseball will investigate a report filed by the umpiring crew against Rizzo for his post-game behavior. Via the New York Daily News:

But multiple baseball sources said MLB officials will investigate a report filed by the umpiring crew after the game about a verbal altercation between them and Nationals GM Mike Rizzo as they were leaving the field after the final out.

Immediately after the game, one of the umpires told Mets security guards outside their dressing room to "find the guy in the suit," apparently referring to Rizzo. Mets security VP Rob Kasdon arrived a few minutes later armed with a Nationals media guide to pore over headshots to identify Rizzo, sources said.

This all seems like a waste of time to me. The Nationals are struggling, Rizzo was upset and he may have flipped out a bit. Not to wish too much ill will on the umpire, but it's best everyone just moves on.
