Ryan Zimmerman's injury is healing, slowly but surely. The Nationals' star third baseman, who has only played in eight games this season due to a sports hernia injury, has been cleared to play in an extended spring training game, according to manager Jim Riggleman. Ryan Zimmerman has progressed to the point of playing in extended spring training games, Riggleman said.
Zimmerman was diagnosed with the injury at the end of April, though he had been on the disabled list since April 9. After undergoing surgery at the end of April, Zimmerman's recovery timetable was set at six weeks. That puts him about two weeks away from returning to the Majors.
Riggleman did say that Zimmerman was experiencing some "discomfort" throwing the ball, but doesn't expect it to be a big deal. This may be something to watch as Zimmerman continues to recover from his injury.
