Jerry Hairston Injury Sends Him To Disabled List, Rick Ankiel Recalled

Jerry Hairston's injury will indeed send the Washington Nationals' utility infielder to the disabled list, and the Nationals will replace his spot on the roster by recalling Rick Ankiel, the team announced. It was a tidy little arrangement that allows the Nationals to keep all their current players on the active roster.

Hairston injured his wrist in Wednesday's loss to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. He is expected to be sidelined for 2-4 weeks. Originally brought in to be a utility infielder, Hairston has started much of the year due to Ryan Zimmerman's injury.

Ankiel, meanwhile, has missed the last two weeks with a wrist injury of his own. He had been the Nationals' starting center fielder, but in his absence, Roger Bernadina seized the position. It remains to be seen how Ankiel will end up bein used in the coming months. The Nationals could certainly use an upgrade to the position.
