Jason Marquis Traded To Diamondbacks, Nationals Reportedly Receive SS Zach Walters In Return

Zach Walters, a 21-year old shorstop currently playing in Single-A, is the man the Washington Nationals have acquired from the Arizona Diamondbacks in return for Jason Marquis, according to a report by ESPN contributor and former Nationals general manager Jim Bowden.

It is confirmed that Jason Marquis has been traded from the Washington Nationals to the Arizona Diamondbacks.for Zach Walters SS #TRADES

Walters is a former ninth-round pick capable of playing second base, shortstop and third base. The 21-year old is currently hitting .307 in Single-A, with a .377 on-base percentage and a .485 slugging percentage.

The primary motivation for the deal appears to be money. The Diamondbacks will pick up all of Marquis' $2.47 million salary. Combined with the Brewers' deal for Jerry Hairston, and the Nationals will have saved almost $4 million.
