Ivan Rodriguez Injury Sends Washington Nationals Catcher To Disabled List

Ivan Rodriguez will indeed be heading to the disabled list after all. The Washington Nationals' veteran backup will be placed on the 15-day DL with a strained right oblique, according to a team press release.

The DL stint will be retroactive to July 7, according to the team. To replace Rodriguez on the roster, the team recalled Jesus Flores from AAA-Syracuse. Flores will serve as the backup catcher to Wilson Ramos in the meantime.

Rodriguez was expected to be in the starting lineup when the Nationals took on the Chicago Cubs at Nationals Park on Thursday, but was pulled from the lineup at the last minute because of the injury. The team feared they would have to put him on the DL, and as it turns out, they did do it.
