Jayson Werth Suffers Mild Groin Strain In Tuesday Night's Game

During the Washington Nationals 2-0 shutout loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday night, Jayson Werth suddenly left the game and was replaced by Brian Bixler in the ninth and final inning. It seemed peculiar at the time and no one seemed to know why it happened. After the game, it was found out that Werth had injured himself earlier in the game.

The popular right fielder suffered a mild groin strain in the fifth inning while chasing an Ian Kennedy single into right field. The team does not seem overly concerned with the injury and Werth's removal was precautionary. Werth on the injury says:

"It could just be like a muscle spasm. We’ll see tomorrow. I don’t think it should be a big deal. Whether Davey wants to play me tomorrow or not, I don’t know. . . . I don’t think it’s anything to worry about."

So Washington waits and watches. It certainly would be a shame to lose Werth at this point as he seems to be finally warming up at the plate and producing, but so far the chances of any extended time out is slim.
