After an 8-4 win over the St. Louis Cardinals in Grapefruit League play, the Washington National announced a first wave of roster moves. A total of seven players were optioned to minor league teams or sent directly to minor league camp.
The players cut were: Austin Bibens-Dirkx, Corey Brown, Jarrett Hoffpauir, Matt Purke, Rafael Martin, Anthony Rendon, and Carlos Rivero.
Purke and Rendon were optioned to Potomac, according to the team, and Rivero was optioned to Syracuse. The other players were sent to the Nationals' minor league camp where they will battle for spots in the team's farm system.
Rendon, an infielder, was a first-round pick in last year's draft. Purke, a left-handed pitcher, was a third-round pick in draft last year.
