The Washington Nationals announced on Sunday that they have decided to option much-hyped prospect Bryce Harper to Class AAA Syracuse to begin the season. Brian McNally, the Nationals beat report for the Washington Examiner, captured some Harper reaction and posted it on twitter:
Bryce Harper: "Of course you want to come in here and make the team every year. And hopefully that’s the last time I’ll get sent down."
— Brian McNally (@bmcnally14) March 18, 2012
That is exactly what you want to hear from Harper. No "woe is me" mentality, whatsoever. One more Harper quote from McNally's feed:
More Harper: "I don’t want ‘Hey, we’re going to start you off in the big leagues, you’re going to go 2-for-20' – like I do everywhere I go"

Even if Harper is burning up on the inside about this move, which knowing his mentality he likely is, the move will undoubtedly work out for the best for both Harper and the big league club. While at Syracuse Harper is expected to play center field, a position of need for Washington, and he will benefit from a few more months of minor league seasoning before Washington fans get to see him don a Curly W at Nationals Park.
