MLB All-Star Game 2012: Ian Desmond Out Of The Midsummer Classic

The Washington Nationals were all set to send three players to the All-Star Game in Kansas City next week, but that number will now be cut down to two as shortstop Ian Desmond will be scratched and replaced by Michael Bourn of the Atlanta Braves on the National League team, according to a report by ESPN:

Atlanta Braves outfielder Michael Bourn has been named by 2012 National League All-Star manager Tony La Russa to replace Washington Nationals shortstop Ian Desmond on the N.L.'s active roster for the 83rd All-Star Game, Major League Baseball announced today.

Desmond has been dealing with a strain to his oblique suffered in June. He's undergone treatment and the medical evaluation is that rest would be the best thing for him at this time.
