Edwin Jackson Hopes To Remain With Nationals Beyond 2012

Edwin Jackson has pitched for six teams since 2008, but he thinks the Nationals might be a long-term home for him.

In the midst of a solid 2012 campaign, Edwin Jackson is hoping his tenure in Washington lasts longer than a single season.

Jackson has been a pretty good pitcher for a few years now -- his ERA has been under 4.00 in three of his last four seasons, and he has put together a nice list of achievements, including an All-Star nod in 2009, a no-hitter in 2010, and a World Series ring with St. Louis last season -- but he hasn't had a long-term home. Since 2008, Jackson has pitched for six teams, getting swapped mid-season twice. After turning down a multi-year offer from Pittsburgh in the offseason for an $11 million, one-year contract in Washington, Jackson thinks he might want to stay in the capital city a little bit longer.

"I would like to [stay]," Jackson said. "I could see myself being a part of [the Nationals], but at the end of the day, it's up to ownership. But right now, I'm concerned about finishing up this year strong and hopefully helping us to a championship.

Jackson will be an important part of the Nats' rotation as Stephen Strasburg exits the picture with the playoffs looming. His 3.69 ERA is somehow the worst of Washington's five starters, so they might do some damage come playoff time.
