The Washington Nationals took a step to address the middle infield depth on Monday by claiming Cesar Izturis off of waivers from the Milwaukee Brewers. To make room for Izturis, the Nationals placed infielder Mark DeRosa on the 15-day DL.

Izturis has played 57 games for the Brewers this season. He hit for an average of .235 with six doubles, two triples and two home runs. Izturis has also recorded 11 RBIs on the season. Obviously the Nationals are claiming him to help their infield defense out, not necessarily to get a big bat out of this.
There is no word yet on when Izturis will be available to play for the Nationals. The common sense here would provide the guess that he would be ready to go on Tuesday against the Houston Astros.
